Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

At Winnington Park, they have " put effective systems in place to identify the needs of pupils with SEND and make sure that these pupils get the help that they need. As a result, pupils with SEND can access the same curriculum as their classmates".

"Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), achieve well. By the time they leave Year 6, pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education"

What is SEND?

A child or young person has special educational needs and disabilities if they have a learning difficulty and/or a disability that means they need special health and education support, we shorten this to SEND (NHS).

The four broad ‘areas of need’ are:

  • Communication and Interaction
  • Cognition and Learning
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
  • Sensory and Physical Needs.

SEND at Winnington Park

Miss Hope is our SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator) and our school govenor with designated responsibility for SEND is Mr Ed Naylor.

All Governing Bodies of maintained schools have a legal duty to publish information on their website about the implementation of the governing body’s policy for pupils with SEND. This information is updated annually.

All Cheshire West and Chester Local Authority (LA) maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and are supported by the LA to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible.

At Winnington Park Primary School and Nursery, our vision is that all children fulfil their potential and make a positive contribution, irrespective of any barriers to their learning. As a school, we offer a rich and deep, inclusive curriculum to ensure that all children are provided with opportunities to progress academically, socially and emotionally. We believe that every child deserves a happy, safe environment where they are respected as equals.

More information can be found in our Accessibility Policy, SEND Information Report and Statutory Statement below.
